PATHOLOGY
Pathology involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region. This includes diseases of bone, soft tissue and salivary glands. Diseases include cysts, benign and malignant tumors, infection, and diseases on metabolism and function. Treatment of these diseases involves extirpation, functional alteration, non-surgical management and supportive care. Infections caused from teeth are included in Dentoalveolar Surgery.
Examples of surgical treatment of Pathology include: Accessional and incisional biopsies, Enucleation of cysts, Abalation of lesions with CO2 laser therapy, I&D of facial space infections and reconstructive surgery.
