TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT SURGERY
Temporomandibular joint surgery is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of pathologic condition, including developmental and acquired deformities, internal derangements, arthritis, functional abnormalities, ankylosis, and infection.
Arthroscopic examination of the TMJ is included under TMJ surgeries. This type of surgical procedure is much less invasive than open joint surgery and has fewer post- operative complications. Conservative TMJ therapy, which includes jaw exercises, physical therapy, splint therapy, and occlusal evaluation with equilibration, usually precedes any type of surgical procedure on the TMJ.
